CHRISTOPH ROIS – The real Boogie-Woogie piano Zur Person: Christoph Rois wurde 1967 in Wien geboren. Im Alter von 16 Jahren begann er, inspiriert durch Albert Ammons, Meade „Lux" Lewis und Pete Johnson sowie den Hamburger Boogie-Meister Axel Zwingenberger, autodidaktisch das Klavierspiel zu erlernen. In dieser Zeit besuchte er regelmäßig Live-Konzerte verschiedener Boogie-Pianisten, besonders aber die seines Vorbilds Axel Zwingenberger. Bald darauf hatte er seinen ersten Live-Auftritt im Wiener „Jazzland“. Schon bald beschäftigte er sich intensiver mit dem Piano Blues und Boogie Woogie und wurde so auf Pianisten wie Blind John Davis, James „Stump“ Johnson und Roosevelt Sykes aufmerksam. Es folgten Live-Auftritte im In- und Ausland und diverse Schallplatten- und CD-Einspielungen. 1994 entdeckte er seine Vorliebe für authentischen Piano Blues. In seiner ausdruckstarken Interpretation zeigt sich sein besonderes Talent für diesen Klavierstil. In den Neunziger Jahren arbeitete Christoph Rois regelmäßig mit dem Jazz-Trompeter Franz Luttenberger zusammen, sowohl als Duo als auch in der Formation „Christoph Rois Boogie Boys“. Die Kombination von Boogie-Piano und New Orleans Jazz, der stark von der Trompete dominiert war, hat seine Vorbilder in Albert Ammons „Rhytm Kings“. Rois und Luttenberger haben ihre Version davon auf einer Schallplatte festgehalten. In den Jahren 1997–2000 war der Pianist festes Mitglied der Mojo Blues Band. Mit der Gruppe hat er hunderte von Auslandstourneen absolviert, die ihn u. a. regelmäßig in die USA, nach Deutschland, in die Benelux-Staaten, die Schweiz und andere Länder führten. In dieser Formation teilte er bei vielen Gelegenheiten die Bühne mit seinem Vorbild aus den Anfangstagen: Axel Zwingenberger. At the age of 16 years he, inspired by Albert Ammons Pete Johnson and Meade "lux" Lewis as well as that Hamburg Boogie master Axel Zwingenberger, he started to learn autodidactically the piano play. In this time it visited regularly live-conzerts of different Boogie pianists, particularly those of its idol Axel Zwingenberger. Soon he had his first live-act in the Viennese "Jazzland". In the consequence he studied Blues and Boogie Woogie and got in closer touch with the piano as played by pianists such as blindly John Davis, James "Stump" Johnson and Roosevelt Sykes. There followed both live-acts in the country and abroad and the recording of various records and CDs. 1994 he discovered his preference for authentic piano Blues and in his expression-strong interpretation appears his special talent for this piano style. In the nineties Christoph Rois co-operated regularly with jazz trumpet player Franz Luttenberger, sometimes as duo and in the formation "Christoph Rois Boogie Boys". The combination of boogie-Piano and new Orleans jazz, which was strongly dominated by the trumpet, has its models in Albert Ammons "Rhytm Kings". Rois and Luttenberger recorded their version of it on a record. In the years 1997–2000 the pianist was firm member of the Mojo Blues Band. With the group he completed hundreds of foreign tours, which led him to the USA, to Germany, Benelux, Switzerland and to other countries. In this formation on many occasions he shared the stage with his idol of the initial days: Axel Zwingenberger.
